Kansas Wetlands Education Center program specialist, Mandy Kern, authored Ava: A Year of Adventure in the Life of an American Avocet. This 32-page, beautifully illustrated children's book, follows the migration and life of a shorebird, for a season at the largest wetlands complex in the interior of the United States - Cheyenne Bottoms. Readers are introduced to science lessons and the importance of wetlands conservation. In this hands-on session, participants will be challenged to engineer a nest, and meet the aquatic inverts that make wetlands one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. KWEC offers free educational programs in classrooms or as a field trips.  Free copies of the book will be available for attendees to use in their classrooms.
